THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO ATTENDED!

We would like to thank everyone who attended our 2023 Survivorship Symposium as well as the speakers and volunteers who all helped everything come together.  We had over 100 people attend in person and nearly 500 people watching online!

Many of you have asked us if the sessions would be available to watch online, and we're pleased to tell you that they have all been uploaded to a playlist on YouTube.  We've also provided a link to all the PowerPoint slides if you want to review any of those.  The button below will take you to our Symposium 23 website page where you'll find a link to both the slides and the videos.

Also, if you did attend the Survivorship Symposium, but have not filled out our survey about the event, we would love to hear from you!

MEET OUR AMBASSADORS:
BOB CANCALOSI
Survivor of Pleomorphic Adenoma

Bob has faced decades of major health challenges with pleomorphic adenoma, a rare type of salivary gland cancer. In 1978, at the age of 18, he had a parotid tumor removed from his neck and seven years later more recurring masses required surgical removal. He also underwent 33 rounds of radiation for 2 months to shrink more tumors.

The effects of the treatments are long-lasting, and Bob sought treatment for facial paralysis. He then began treatment to offset adult-induced asthma from the radiation and chronic sinusitis.

In 2017, another tumor was diagnosed as a rare salivary duct carcinoma, which was removed during a 12-hour surgery, requiring him to spent 21 days in the intensive care unit to recover. He had a platinum weight sewed into his right eyelid, and unfortunately, due to blood clot issues, Bob then underwent extensive leech therapy. Following this, MRIs were required every six months to monitor progress.

For the first time since 2013, the proportion of 13–17-year-olds who received their first dose of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine did not increase.

Overall, vaccination coverage by age 13 and by age 14 years decreased for adolescents born in 2008 compared to those born earlier, highlighting the need for catch-up vaccination for some adolescents.  Source
