PICTURE THIS!

We're looking for pictures of real people to use on our new website (coming soon), brochures, and social media.  We don't want to use boring stock photos! Your photos could provide hope and inspiration to others going through head and neck cancer!

What makes a good picture?

  • Think, "Is this a photo I could envision on a professional website?"
  • Is your photo in focus and high resolution?
  • Do you have permission from everyone in the photo for it to be publicly posted?
  • Is the lighting good?

What kind of pictures should you send?

  • Pictures of you in treatment
  • Pictures of you and your family
  • Pictures before or after surgery
  • Pictures of you living your life
  • Pictures of you with  your medical team
  • Pictures from healthcare workers and hospitals

If we use your photo, we'll send you some Alliance "swag" (featuring our new logo that we will unveil soon) and provide photo credit on our website and social media.

MEET OUR AMBASSADORS:
Kim Barnard
Executive, Senior Account Oncology Specialist
and Survivor of HPV-Attributed Tonsil Cancer;
Roxboro, NC

Kim’s cancer journey began on August 30, 2023, during her annual physical with her primary care physician. She had an enlarged lymph node on the right side of her neck, and at the time, it was thought to be the result of a sinus infection.  After trying a few things with no improvement, Kim requested that a biopsy be performed on the lymph node. The biopsy confirmed Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

“November 2, 2023, was a day that rocked me to my core. I was never a smoker; this diagnosis was 50% more common in males than females, and at this point, the primary tumor could not be identified."

At the beginning of December, Kim underwent robotic surgery to remove both tonsils and a radical neck dissection to remove 14 lymph nodes.

She was scheduled for 30 rounds of radiation, five days a week for six weeks. She was fitted for the radiation mask, which was an experience for her: “It was the first time I felt like a 'cancer' patient, and a new set of emotions took over."
