Clinical Trials Show Promise for Head and Neck Patients

Clinical trials are changing the landscape of cancer treatment. But, did you know that clinical trials are typically not a "last ditch effort" when treating head and neck cancer? Although this is fairly common misperceptions, the reality is that many treatments in the trial phase can be used as first-line treatment, which means they may be your first and best option for treating your cancer. A trial underway at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center is showing promise for patients with HPV-positive cancer, like patient Russell Breault. Read more about Russell's success with clinical trial treatment!

Ambassador Spotlight: Cristiana Ratti-Williams

In the fall of 2019, Cristiana’s voice started to get hoarse. It seemed to be better some days than others, but it progressively worsened over a few months. She went to see her primary care provider and was given a referral to an ENT. At the time Cristiana thought it was an overreaction for a hoarse voice. But, she would soon receive a throat cancer diagnosis.

HNCA is Looking for Spanish-Speaking and Female Survivor Mentors

HNCA partners with Imerman Angels (IA) to provide peer-to-peer support for the head and neck cancer community. We share the belief that no one should face cancer alone. Through this partnership, we match mentors who share similar cancer journeys with patients, survivors, and caregivers to provide one-on-one emotional support and compassion.

While we recognize that each cancer and life situation is unique, our goal is to connect patients, survivors and caregivers with “Mentor Angels” who’ve faced a similar experience. Mentor Angels give cancer fighters and caregivers the chance to ask personal questions and receive support from a peer who has been down the same road before.

At this time, we are in need of fluent Spanish-speaking mentors. We are also in need of female head and neck cancer survivor mentors. If you are interested in being a mentor, please learn more and sign up today!
