ORAL, HEAD AND NECK CANCER AWARENESS WEEK

Next week, April 16-21, is our 25th year of working with organizations all over the world to help them host free oral, head and neck cancer screenings. 

We want to say a big, "THANK YOU," to all the sites that have chosen to participate and we want to encourage you to "get a check for head and neck". You can check our map to see if there is a free screening site near you.  

 


SURPRISE- JASON WHITE! 

Join HNCA for a mini concert featuring Green Day's Jason White.  Jason, a survivor of tonsil cancer, will be performing several of his signature songs to thank the many 2023 Move-A-Thon participants and honor all patients and survivors of head and neck cancers. Additionally, Jason will be discussing his cancer journey with his oncologist and HNCA board member Dr. Sue Yom

DISCUSSING CANCER WITH YOUR CHILDREN - BLOG POST

Getting your cancer diagnosis was probably one of the hardest days of your life, and as a parent it can also be incredibly difficult to think about how you're going to tell your children.  Emily McDaniel is the Child Life Specialist at UC Davis Cancer Center and is here to help!  She's provided us with some tips and ideas of how to have these difficult conversations about cancer with your children.

NEWS AND SHORTS

A research team is currently working on a study about the financial impact of dental treatments associated with head and neck cancer care. They are interested in understanding the amount of dental treatment that patients with head and neck cancers require before and after cancer treatment.

This year is the 14th annual Smash Cancer tennis tournament in Wilmington, NC.  The tournament runs from May 19-21st and anyone can participate.  The event also features free head and neck cancer screenings and the proceeds are donated to HNCA's gas card program.  Click here to register or find out more about this event.

Recently the American Cancer Society released its 2023 cancer statistics report. One of the major takeaways was that there has been a 65% reduction in cervical cancer for ages 20-24 and it’s attributed to the HPV vaccine.  Read more here
