HONORING THE LIFE, LEGACY, & CONTRIBUTIONS OF DR. ITZHAK BROOK
After a long battle with esophageal and metastatic pancreatic cancer, Dr. Itzhak Brook passed away January 10th, 2025 peacefully with his family by his side.
Even at the end, the Head & Neck Cancer Alliance allowed him to feel like he was making a difference in the lives of others going through their own battles with head and neck cancer. On behalf of the Brook family they request that donations be made to the Alliance in honor of his memory and legacy.
A LIFE WELL LIVED
Dr. Brook was a trailblazer and a beacon of hope in the head and neck cancer community. As the first and only laryngectomee patient survivor to serve on the board of the Alliance, he brought an unparalleled combination of professional and personal experience to his role on the board and as an Alliance Ambassador.
For over a decade, Dr. Brook was a key opinion leader who traveled nationwide to attend meetings, provide guidance, and advocate for the head and neck cancer community. His wisdom and leadership helped shape the Alliance’s mission and programs, leaving an indelible mark on the organization. Being a part of the Alliance brought him joy and a sense of purpose. He was honored and proud to have the opportunity to help so many people.
His legacy of knowledge and compassion extended far beyond his board service. His book, My Voice: A Physician’s Personal Experience with Throat Cancer, remains a must-read for patients, caregivers, and medical professionals. Dr. Brook also authored The Laryngectomee Guide, a comprehensive resource that has been translated into 29 languages, extending his impact across the globe. Both books reflect his commitment to improving the lives of others and his desire to empower patients and professionals alike.
Dr. Brook’s contributions were widely recognized throughout his lifetime. He was the recipient of the prestigious 2012 J. Conley Medical Ethics Lectureship Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. Most recently, in October of 2024, he was honored with the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance Distinguished Service Award at the Head and Neck Cancer Survivorship Symposium.
Dr. Brook’s dedication to helping others and his invaluable contributions to the head and neck cancer community will forever be part of his legacy. His profound impact as a physician, patient, author, and advocate will continue to inspire and guide those who follow in his footsteps.
Dr. Brook will always be a part of the Head & Neck Cancer Alliance family and his family asks that donations be made in his memory to the Alliance.
